Why Pre-Employment Drug Screening is Necessary

January 3rd, 2008

Pre-employment drug screening employs drug-testing programs and is there to help protect the employees’ health and safety. It also keeps down or eliminates the costs incurred by having and employee on the payroll who abuses drugs.

It helps to identify before hand any employee who may have a serious problem with substance abuse so that they can be sent for treatment.

When these pre-employment drug-screening programs are combined with drug education and treatment they tend to be more effective in managing substance abuse. They are also a great asset and help to achieve, cost savings, good employee relations and a competitive advantage for companies.

Drug screen however can give rise to absenteeism, employee turnover, tardiness, lowered productivity and workplace violence.
